Precision Marketing: FTSE 100 fails search-engine test

FTSE 100 companies are lagging behind in search-engine marketing, and could be missing out on millions of pounds of revenue, according to a new study.

The Search Works - the search marketing specialist formerly called WSPS - says 64 per cent of their official websites do not appear at the top of results pages. Search marketing allows companies to pay to stay at the top of lists for many search terms.

Nick Hynes, chief executive of The Search Works, says: "Large UK companies can no longer expect to remain top of listings just because they have a well-known name."
